Research InterestsMy research focuses primarily on nonconscious processing of words and pictures. To get at this, I use the masked priming paradigm with several different dependent measures, including reaction times, ERPs, kinematic measures, fMRI and MEG. A primary question in this work has to do with the "depth of processing" of nonconsciously perceived information. A second issue is concerned with the "autonomy" of nonconscious processes -- Is it possible to "control" nonconsicously elicited processes? I am also interested in issues of lexical access in speech production, especially attention and control. Because bilinguals have to control interference between two or more languages when speaking, I am especially interested in bilingual speech production.
