Research InterestsOur lab researches the acoustics of musical instruments and the voice. We also study music as a signal.
In wind instruments, we study their resonators, their control oscillators, their interactions with the player's vocal tract, their fingerings, their per formance techniques.
In string instruments, we look at transfer functions, acoustical performance, string-bow interactions.
We are also interested in the fundamental acoustics of speech and singing, performance techniques of trained singers, parti cularly the use of vocal tract resonances.
In previous work with cochlear implants, we examined the perception of
music and of tonal languages and we occasionally work on feedback
techniques in training.
