Research Interests

My overall research goal is the creation of systems for usefully managing information. Intelligent information management, which includes automated indexing, information filtering, observation of user behaviour to infer information needs, and development of hybrid tools (e.g. fuzzy, neural, statistical, symbolic). My research is focussed on the development of automated systems for information extraction, and for the synthesis of the extracted information into humanly useful information resources (knowledge). To avoid drowning in the ever increasing flow of multi-modal electronic information available, and to reduce the cognitive load on users, automated tools are required.
