Research Interests

My major current research interest in relation to language & communication is in further development of the DRC computational model of visual word recognition and reading aloud. These developments are proceeding in a number of directions: (a) building versions of the model for other languages (currently Portuguese, French, German and Italian); (b) adding to the model the ability to spell (i.e. to generate a spelling from a phoneme string); (c) adding a level of lemma representation as a first step towards adding a semantic component to the model. I am also investigating developmental disorders of language and literacy and methods for their treatment; and continue to work in cognitive neuropsychiatry, especially on delusional belief.
