Research Interests

My research interests range across applied linguistics (CALL, educational linguistics, teaching and learning of languages) and theoretical linguistics (Italian linguistics, phonological theory, phonology). In the area of CALL my recent work has focused on listening online as well as the use of technologies such as wiki in relation to intercultural knowledge and cultural stereotypes. I am currently working on a typology of online language learning activities based on notions of communication and interaction. I am also interested in the use of online discussion and its (possible) cross-modal effects on other areas of language learning. Increasingly I'm working towards the integration of Web 2.0 applications into the learning and teaching of languages. My doctoral research is in the area of Italian phonology and studies the phenomenon of raddoppiamento sintattico. It also involves typological research on related Romance language phenomena.
