Research InterestsMy research interests are in semantics, lexicology, the syntax-semantics interface, and the relationship between language and cognition. I developed a representational system for verbal semantics that draws heavily on the object-oriented Unified Modeling Language (UML), the de-facto standard for software design and analysis. I am currently looking at ways to extend my system - called Unified Eventity Representation (UER) - to address questions of compositional semantics and discourse representation. This will lead to the first linguistic object-oriented approach not only for verbal semantics, but for semantics in general. The resulting formalism should be deployable as interlingua between linguistic-semantic representation languages and computational modelling languages. This is one of the aims of the ARC project I am working in as Postdoctoral Fellow. At the same time, the current UER generates hypotheses about cognitive structuring and constraints on linguistic variability, which I would like to test empirically.
