Research InterestsSociety's increasing reliance on computer generated and distributed graphic information requires that we better understand how humans process such displays. My research involves fine-grained investigation of this processing with particular emphasis on graphics (both static and animated) that depict complex, dynamic information. Aspects of visual perception that constrain human capacities to process such information are a focus of this research. A key goal is to investigate ways in which human processing of graphic displays can be facilitated. Two major themes of this investigation are improved display design (using research-based principled approaches) and provision of ancillary support to aid more efficient and effective extraction of task-relevant information.
