Research Interests

My past research has investigated a 'perceptual bias' for looming auditory motion in a simple musical context. This bias is an overestimation of loudness change for tones that increase in intensity, relative to those that decrease in intensity. I am currently interested in (1) the sensory and cognitive mechanisms that underpin this perceptual overestimation; and (2) how a 'perceptual bias' to rising intensity stimuli manifests in the perception of musical dynamics (e.g., crescendos vs. diminuendos).
