SummerFest '07: Student Posters

Student Poster Submissions Now Closed

This year's Poster Session will be held on the evening of Monday 3rd December, 2007.

The aim of the HCSNet Summer School poster session is to help students get to know one another and to hear about research and hot topics in a range of disciplines. The poster session will feature plenty of food and drinks to keep the atmosphere lively, informal and social and along the way we hope you’ll get to know your peers and receive useful feedback on your own research ideas.

The general idea is for the posters to convey who you are, where you are and what you are doing. No need for intricate, time-consuming designs or laminating! In fact we will do all the printing, so no need for you to produce a hard copy. We’ve created basic templates in MS PowerPoint that should help you to put the 8 x A4 poster slides together quickly and efficiently (see below). It’s fine if you wish to use an alternative to MS PowerPoint but please keep to the basic design, headings, a maximum of 8 x A4 slides, and a font size that can be read easily from a distance. If you have questions, drop an email to the Summer School coordinator Kate Stevens.

Submission Process

If you would like to present a poster at SummerFest '07 you must submit a title and 200 abstract for your proposed poster by Monday 24 September, 2007. Please email your title and abstract submissions to sfest07@hcsnet.edu.au using the following naming convention in the subject line of your email:
[surname]_[initial]_[event]
Where [event] is SS (Student Session).

For example:

  • Buckley_K_SS = Kym Buckley's abstract for the Student Poster Session

Poster Templates

There are two templates to choose from: one for students who have commenced research and have results to report (see 'With Results' below), and another for students who have not yet collected or analysed data, or who are undergraduate students (see 'No Results' below).

Simon Zwarts has produced a LaTeX style file you can use to produce PDF slides if that's easier for you than PowerPoint.

Please note that we must receive your electronic poster presentaton Friday 2 November, 2007 to ensure we have enough time for printing. Please email your electronic presentation to the SummerFest Organisers by this date and we look forward to seeing you there!
