HCSNet SummerFest 2005 is the network's inaugural annual gathering,
combining both the HCSNet Summer School and
the HCSNet Conference. The Conference incorporates a number of events, including:
- WISP: the Workshop on Interactive Systems in the Performing Arts
- SPAPAC: the Workshop on Speech Processing and Auditory Perception in Adverse Conditions
- the Language and Speech Conference
SummerFest will be
held at Macquarie University from Tuesday 13th to Friday 16th December
2005. This year's highlights:
- in the summer school, 16 three hour courses covering a wide range
of topics in the interdisciplinary space covered by HCSNet, all taught
by experts in their fields;
- a plenary talk by Justine Cassell,
an internationally recognised expert credited with developing the
Embodied Conversational Agent;
- a presentation from Stelarc, the Australian-based
performance artist whose work explores and extends the concept of the
body and its relationship with technology through human/machine
interfaces.
Attendance at the HCSNet SummerFest is free for students, and will
cost a minimal registration fee for non-students. Note that students need to register by 30th September to be assured of a place at the summer school.
Travel bursaries
will also be available to offset travel and accommodation costs for Australian-based
students travelling from outside of metropolitan Sydney; more information will follow on these soon.
