Equipment provided
Each of the conference rooms will be provided with a whiteboard, overhead projector, amplifier/speakers, data projector and computer. The computer will be a PC running Windows 2000 and MS Office 2000 and will have a floppy disk drive and a CD-ROM drive.
Portable files: Bring CD, memory stick or flash drive only
If you are using PowerPoint with standard fonts and simple embedded images (e.g. graphs, pictures), you are encouraged to bring your presentation as a portable file on memory stick or CD-ROM formatted for PC (not Mac). This will enable your file to be loaded onto the provided computer half an hour before the start of the relevant session and ensure a smooth transition between presentations. Before committing yourself to this option, check that your presentation is portable by saving your file to floppy disk or CD and testing it on a different (PC) computer to the one used to create the file. Pay special attention to sounds and videos which may be missing, and to fonts and font spacing.
Non-portable files: Bring your notebook computer
If your file contains special fonts (e.g. phonetic fonts), sounds, videos or other options which you find do not transfer well via a portable file to another (PC) computer, the safest option is to bring the notebook computer on which it was created. You will be asked to bring your computer to the venue half an hour before your session commences, check that it communicates correctly with the data projector (and other equipment if required), and leave your computer running at the podium area until it is required for your presentation. If you use a Macintosh that needs an adapter to connect to a data projector, please bring the adapter with you!
Australian Power Supply
The power supply in Australia is 240 volts and we use a distinctive three-pin power plug. Adapters for power plugs are available from travel stores (e.g., the Sydney Airport shops near Level 1 departure area). Check the manuals of all electrical equipment that you intend to use in Australia to ensure that they are compatible with 240 volt power supplies. Most laptop computers will be compatible with 240 volts but an adaptor plug will still be required.
Australian Video Format
Australian televisions use the PAL system but video players will accept both NTSC and PAL. However, the quality may not be as good for an NTSC video. If you require high quality, please arrange to have your NTSC video converted to the PAL system before you arrive in Australia.
