Student Poster Requirements

The aim of the HCSNet Summer School poster session is to help students get to know one another and to hear about research and hot topics in a range of disciplines.

The general idea is for posters to convey who you are, where you are, and what you are doing. No need for intricate, time-consuming designs or laminating! In fact we will do all the printing, so no need for you to produce a hard copy. We’ve created basic templates in MS PowerPoint that should help you to put the 8 x A4 poster slides together quickly and efficiently (see below). If you have questions, drop an email to the Summer School coordinator, Kate Stevens.

It’s fine if you wish to use an alternative to MS PowerPoint but please keep to the basic design, headings, a maximum of 8 x A4 slides, and a font size that can be read easily from a distance.

The poster session will be held on the evening of Tuesday 13th December with plenty of pizza and beer to keep the atmosphere lively, informal, and social. Along the way, we hope you’ll get to know your peers and received useful feedback on your own research ideas.

You'll need to submit your 8 slide poster electronically by 21st November 2005. When you register for the Summer School we’d also like you to include a 150-200 word abstract that describes your project. The abstract can be changed via the HCSNet website later if you wish.

Poster Templates

There are two templates to choose from: one for students who have commenced research and have results to report (see 'With Results' below), and another for students who have not yet collected or analysed data, or who are undergraduate students (see 'No Results' below).

Simon Zwarts has produced a LaTeX style file you can use to produce PDF slides if that's easier for you than PowerPoint.
