Welcome!

The inaugural HCSNet SummerFest, to be held at Macquarie University from Tuesday December 13th to Friday December 16th 2005, comprises:

• the 2005 Summer School (December 13th--14th) for graduate students and researchers; and
• the 1st HCSNet Conference (December 14th--16th) incorporating:
  • HCSNet speed papers and cluster discussions (December 14th--15th);
  • the 15th Australian Language and Speech (ALAS) Conference (December 15th--16th);
  • ALAS plenary addresses from Catherine Best and Bryan Byrne;
  • HCSNet plenary addresses from Justine Cassell (Northwestern U), Stelarc, and Elim Papadakis (Australian Research Council);
  • two interdisciplinary workshops:
    • WISP: the Workshop on Interactive Systems in the Performing Arts; and
    • SPAPAC: the Workshop on Speech Processing and Auditory Perception under Adverse Conditions

The aim of these four days of research papers and discussion is to bring together as many members of HCSNet as possible, to provide students with opportunities to hear the latest research and hot topics in the range of disciplines that make up HCSNet, and to allow researchers in HCSNet to meet fellow members, hear of their research interests, and begin to develop collaborations that cross discipline boundaries. The Summer School and Conference are unashamedly interdisciplinary!
