NewsNew keynote speaker for HCSNet Workshop
We are pleased to announce that Dr Roland Goecke from the University of Canberra will be giving a presentation with Professor Eric Vatikiotis-Bateson from the University of British Columbia at the HCSNet Advances in Speech Production: Tools, Techniques and Recent Research Workshop. Dr Goekcke has recently been a successful ARC LIEF grant recipient that grew from one of the funding successes of the HCSNet Interdisciplinary support via SummerFests and some prior workshops. The presentation that Roland Goecke and Eric Vatikiotis-Bateson will give will be directly relevant to the issue of collecting AV speech data (the key aim of the LIEF grant) - something that should be of interest to all those involved in the conducting the LIEF research project. You can find out more about the workshop here: http://www.hcsnet.edu.au/hcsnetevents/2010/asp_2010.
Call for Papers - ICA2010
The International Congress on Acoustics, ICA, is held every three years on behalf of the International Commission for Acoustics. This year it will be held in Sydney on the 23 - 27 of August. It provides the opportunity for all acousticians to meet and discuss recent advances in their fields of interest. The congress will feature a high standard technical program which will include plenary, distinguished, contributed and poster papers. Special sessions will focus on particular areas of acoustics which includes speech and music and distinguished speakers will present on different areas of acoustics. Plenary speakers will include Prof Graeme Clark the inventor of the bionic ear.
Particularly relevant for the Aust academics is that peer review of papers is an option. Also the proceedings of the ICA 2010 incorporates the proceedings of the Aust Acoustical Society Annual Conference which in the most recent ranking from the ARC, has been allocated an A ranking. Deadline for abstracts 22 February, more information can be found here: http://www.ica2010sydney.org.
