Diane Hughes, Macquarie University Research area: Singing Voice, Vocal Pedagogy - Singing, voice, music education, vocal pedagogy, vocal assessmentDiane Hughes has an extensive background in contemporary popular singing pedagogy, and has been an invited speaker at national conferences and seminars on a range of issues relating to contemporary popular singing. Her work within the industry has involved artist development and recording. Research interests include contemporary popular singing, vocal pedagogy, vocal assessments, vocal performance and singing in schools; current research projects include peer and self assessment, group assessment, improvisation and creative practices in music theatre studies, and the implementation and development of the vocal journal.
Research on singing in schools (2007) has lead Diane to become an advocate for the development of cross-curriculum voice studies in primary and secondary schools through which students may be afforded an understanding of voice function, voice health, voice care and offered strategies for dealing with transitioning voices. Cross-curriculum areas involve units of work in Health and Physical Education (HPE), Science, English, Drama and Creative Arts/Music.

2nd CFC: Ontology Learning and Knowledge Discovery Using the Web
Wilson Wong, Wei Liu and Mohammed Bennamoun (University of Western Australia) are editing a book entitled "Ontology Learning and Knowledge Discovery Using the Web: Challenges and Recent Advances". Researchers and practitioners are invited to submit on or before 15 DECEMBER 2009, a 2-3 page chapter proposal clearly explaining the mission and concerns together with a tentative organisation (i.e. section titles with section summaries) of their proposed chapter. Authors of accepted proposals will be notified by 15 JANUARY 2010 about the status of their proposals. Authors of accepted proposals will be sent guidelines and templates to prepare the full chapter of 8,000 - 10,000 words. Full chapters are expected to be submitted by 15 MARCH 2010. All submitted full chapters will be reviewed on a double-blind review basis.
All proposals and chapters should be typewritten in English in APA style and be submitted in Microsoft Word® format to wilson@csse.uwa.edu.au. Unfortunately, LaTex files cannot be accepted. Contributors may also be requested to serve as reviewers for this project. This book is scheduled to be published by IGI Global (formerly Idea Group Inc.).
