Extension of peripersonal space in a multisensory integration taskFriday, 3rd July 2009
Submission Type: Speed Paper This present work examines multisensory integration facilitation through saccadic reaction time to a visual target in the presence of a tactile distractor. It also looks at the effects of the extension of peripersonal space through tool use on multisensory integration facilitation. Participants will respond to a visual target by making a saccade towards it while ignoring a tactile distractor. The distractor will be presented near or far to the target stimulus. In some trials, participants will hold tools to manipulate their experience of peripersonal space. It is expected that peripersonal space will be manipulated through tool use and that this change will then affect the amount of facilitation to saccadic reaction time that occurs due to multisensory integration.
