spotlight participant

Research area: Admin

Mel joined HCSNet to assist with the organisation of SummerFest in September 2005. In April 2008 she stepped into the role of UWS-based administrator whilst Kym Buckley was on Maternity Leave. She has coordinated numerous workshops during 2008 and was the lead administrator of SummerFest this year. She has had a varied career path commencing as a secretary with a mortgage broking firm. On a long flight home from London in 1996, she decided to go to uni and commenced a Bachelor of Arts. This degree culminated in an Honours degree majoring in Psychology undertaken in the MARCS Labs. She continued her work at MARCS as a Research Assistant and eventually found herself as the MARCS Liaison Officer. During the last few years Mel has been studying Law and in May this year was admitted to the legal profession in the Supreme Court of NSW. As of January 2009, Mel will be taking up a position as a solicitor in the small town of West Wyalong in regional NSW.

Farewell to Mel Gallagher

This week we say farewell to HCSNet Administrative Officer, Mel Gallagher. HCSNet Admin Officer and MARCS Liaison Officer by day, law student by night, Mel recently graduated in Law and has been admitted to the legal profession in the Supreme Court of NSW. This achievement speaks volumes, epitomizing Mel's hard work and dedication. HCSNet has benefitted vastly from these qualities -- during 2008 Mel has been the powerhouse behind SummerFest coordinating venue, publications, catering, travel, as well as attending to all the small details to ensure that all components of the massive event ran without a hitch.

Mel has been a tremendous colleague -- professional, unflappable, reliable, generous, and always looking for new challenges to develop her knowledge and skills. She has organized numerous national and international conferences, from ICMPC7 in 2002 and EPC in 2003 to Interspeech in 2008. And her Anzac Biscuits are the stuff of legend!

Thank you Mel for the hard work, dedication, and happy disposition that you have brought to HCSNet. We know that, as with all that you set out to do, your new career as a solicitor in West Wyalong will be a great success and testimony to your can-do attitude, your commitment and professionalism.

... And Welcome Back Rosemary!

Rosemary Eliott will be rejoining HCSNet as the network's UWS-based administrator from January 2008 to relieve Kym Buckley, who has extended her maternity leave. Rosemary will be known to a great many of HCSNet's members through her role in organizing HCSNet workshops and many other events between 2006 and 2008. We are absolutely thrilled to have her extensive knowledge and experience back on board to carry HCSNet forward into 2009!
