HCSNet Update Newsletter Volume 4 Number 6Tuesday, 12th February 2008
In this issueParticipant SpotlightGregor McEwan, National ICT Australia
Research area: Human-Computer InteractionMy research interests lie in developing technology to support collaborative culture and practices of groups of people. This falls within the broad area of Computer Supported Cooperative Work (CSCW). More specifically, my current work is about supporting collaboration in mixed presence groups. Mixed presence groups have a mixture of collocated and distributed members all working together at the same time. My previous research has been about supporting distributed groups with peripheral informal awareness amongst group members while they are focussing on their individual tasks, and enabling easy transitions to casual interactions. I would like to unify these two research interests by investigating how groups transition from individual work to ad hoc group meetings, and using technology to support that transition in mixed presence settings.
