Participant Spotlight

Jon Drummond, University of Western Sydney

Research area: Music Perception and Production - HCI

Jon Drummond - composer, performer, sound artist, researcher, software designer and educator. I am currently based as a researcher at the Virtual Interactive Research Performance Environment (VIPRE) located in MARCS Auditory Laboratories, University of Western Sydney. My research interests include interactive new media arts, electroacoustic composition and performance, musical interfaces, spatial sound and musical composition. At MARCS I am working as a research assistant with Dr Garth Paine on two projects "Performance Practice in New Interfaces for Realtime Electronic Music Performance" and "Applications of Interactive Music Systems in Improvisiational Music Therapy".

My creative work has been presented at various Australian and international festivals and galleries including the International Computer Music Conferences (Denmark 1994, Canada 1995, Greece 1997, China 1999, Singapore 2003) and the Adelaide Festival of Arts 2006. Various collaborations with Nigel Helyer, Norie Newmark, Sarah Waterson and Kate Richards have been shown at ISEA, ACME, Carriage Works and PSpace while my acoustic and electronic compositions have been commissioned and performed by leading Australian performers and ensembles including austraLYSIS, The Song Company, Ros Dunlop and Kathleen Gallagher at events and venues such as the Sydney Opera House, the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, Electrofringe and the Australasian Computer Music Conferences.

HCSNet Statement on Progress of ARC-Funded Projects for ARC Proposals

We have been advised by the ARC that named investigators on the original HCSNet proposal are not required to submit a one page report on progress of HCSNet as part of Section D2 in the Discovery Projects Instructions to Applicants for funding commencing in 2009. Please note that most of the schemes for which reports are required will have the following prefixes: DP, LP, FF.

HCSNet Seminar Support Program

A reminder that HCSNet provides financial support for the organisation of seminars through its Seminar Support Program. The Program aims to bring together researchers who might otherwise not meet as a consequence of both geographical and disciplinary boundaries.
