HCSNet Update Newsletter Volume 4 Number 1Tuesday, 8th January 2008
In this issueParticipant SpotlightMegan Gilliver, National Acoustic Laboratories
Research area: Psychology, psycholinguisticsI have a background in psychology and linguistics, and completed my PhD at UNE investigating "The Linguistic characteristics of preschoolers at risk for reading problems". With a strong ongoing interest in the area of hearing loss, I have recently taken up a position as Research Psychologist at the National Acoustic Laboratories. The research teams of which I am a part are involved in a range of projects examining hearing health behaviour. Specifically, we are interested in investigating potential barriers to the prevention of hearing loss, and to successful audiological rehabilitation. Of particular interest to me is the perceived impact of hearing loss: The potential for these to influence behaviour and the means by which perceptions may be altered to promote more beneficial hearing health behaviours. NewsHCSNet Collaborative Grant Writing SupportA reminder that this program aims to encourage the submission of cross-disciplinary and cross-institutional project proposals to major funding schemes such as the ARC Discovery Program, the ARC Linkage Program, and the NHMRC by supporting travel for the purpose of grant preparation. The program provides travel and accommodation support up to a maximum of $1000 in order to prepare a grant proposal. Although there is no closing date, there is a limited budget and early submission may be advantageous. See http://www.hcsnet.edu.au/programs/collaborativegrantwriting for more information.
