Participant Spotlight

Craig T Jin, University of Sydney

Research area: Audition - Acoustic Science

My current research focus has been on spatial audio research, which deals with all aspects of the spatial perception of sound. This includes the study of how humans localise sounds, the effect of room acoustics on sound perception, speech perception in rooms, recording of spatial sound fields, playback using our 64 loudspeaker array (under construction), generation of augmented and virtual reality audio, 3D voice communication systems with location aware computing, and the role of spatial audio in music and cinematic presentations. We have recently invented a new type of spherical microphone array [1] and contributed to the development of the new binaural decoder for MPEG Surround [2]. [1] A. Parthy et al., "Optimization of Co-centered Rigid and Open Spherical Microphone Arrays," Proceedings of the 118th convention of the Audio Engineering Society, Paris, France, May 2006, Convention Paper 6764, P17-26. HCSNet Statement on Progress for ARC Proposals

If you were a named investigator on the original HCSNet proposal, you'll be aware that for some ARC funding programs you need to provide a one page report on progress of HCSNet as part of Section D2. For consistency, we have produced a standard HCSNet one page report that you can use for this purpose; email Rosemary Eliott at reliott@ics.mq.edu.au if you would like a copy of this for your proposal.
