Full registration opens in September, but preregistering now guarantees you a place, and lets you state preferences for summer school courses that will help us to avoid scheduling conflicts. There are four workshops at SummerFest this year, on Search and Information Extraction from Audio Data; Designing the Australian National Corpus; Embodied Interaction in Mobile, Physical and Virtual Environments; and Voice and Voice Disorders. Gary Marsden, this week’s spotlight, is teaching a course at this year’s HCSNet Summer School. His course covers both theory and practice, with the first half of the course addressing the topic of Understanding Mobile Interaction Design, and the second half focusing on Mobile Interaction Design Practice. The course features hands-on exploration of tools and techniques for assessing or developing new mobile services and products; case-studies, worked-examples and guidelines to help participants understand critical issues in the successful design of key emerging mobile application areas; and examples of research applied practically. Registration has been extended for the HCSNet Workshop on Narrative & Communication Disorders to be held at the University of Melbourne on September 13th-14th. A provisional program is available on our website and we are pleased to announce that Dr Olga Solomon (University of Southern California) and Dr Nan Bernstein Ratner (University of Maryland) will be giving keynote talks via videoconference. Attendance is free, but registration is necessary for catering purposes. Please note that travel funding for students and HCSNet members is still available, so please indicate on your registration form whether you would like to be considered (priority given to those who register first).
